Interstate Travel:
Interstate health certificates are typically straightforward and require only a physical exam to confirm your pet’s health and current rabies vaccination. These certificates can often be issued on the same day as your exam appointment.
International Travel:
International health certificates involve a more detailed process. They must be endorsed by USDA APHIS and require completion by a USDA-accredited veterinarian. We are proud to announce that Dr. Dunahoo is USDA-accredited and ready to guide and support you through each step of obtaining an international health certificate.
International travel requirements vary by country and may change from time to time. International travel requirements may include:
- USDA APHIS endorsement
- One or more veterinary exams
- Current vaccinations
- Destination-specific forms, lab tests, and procedures
- Waiting periods (especially following rabies vaccination)
- Microchipping
Timing is critical. Health certificates are only valid for a limited period before travel, so early planning is essential. Some countries require specific lab testing or impose quarantine or waiting periods, so we highly recommend scheduling your appointment well in advance.
